A new highway about to open in next March will reduce travel time between Hanoi and Halong, the world’s famous destination, to just 1.5 hours.
At current, the journey takes at least three hours with distance of 180 kilometers. The new Hai Phong – Halong highway which links to Hanoi – Hai Phong highway will help to cut 60 kilometers and half of travel time from capital city to Halong.
Van Don International Airport around 50 kilometers from the bay is also scheduled to open next spring. Van Don airport is designed to receive two million arrivals a year by 2020, and there are plans to expand the capacity to five million by 2030. Official details are not yet available, but the budget for this project is $330 millions.
Halong and Quang Ning provide are expected to host national tourism year for the first time in 2018 and the ASEAN Tourism Forum in January 2019 thanks for it’s new infrastructure system.
The national tourism year will include a paragliding tournament in April, an international car race in June and a food festival in the fall.
In 1994, Halong Bay was named as World’s Heritage Site and quickly become one of the most popular destination in Vietnam.
According to Quang Ninh’s local government, during first 6 months of 2017, more than 4.3 million, including 1.7 million foreign travelers visited Halong Bay, rose 12 percent from previous year.
The bay was used to film the recent Hollywood blockbuster “Kong: Skull Island”, and has been raved about by many travel bloggers.
