Taste Atlas lists the 100 most delicious street foods in the world in 2024, including Bánh Mì (Vietnamese Bread), Phở (Noodle Soup) and Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì (Broken Rice With Pork Ribs & Skin).
The new list of 100 best street foods in the world is voted based on the opinions of experts and diners from around the world; considering the popularity and unique flavor of each dish.
Among them, three Vietnamese dishes are Bánh Mì, Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì and Phở, ranked 6th, 40th and 54th on the list, respectively.
Bánh Mì (Vietnamese Bread)
Rated 4.6/5 stars, Taste Atlas introduces Bánh Mì as a popular Vietnamese cake with the core ingredient being baguette. Bánh Mì is suitable to eat at any meal of the day. This is also a street food that has been honored on the world culinary map many times.
Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì (Broken Rice With Pork Ribs & Skin)
Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì is rated 4.5/5 stars and ranked 40th on the list. Rice is cooked from broken rice, broken rice, previously discarded during the milling process. Today, Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì has become a typical dish in Ho Chi Minh City.
The culinary magazine describes: “When served, Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì is eaten with a variety of foods such as fried eggs, shredded pork skin, grilled pork ribs or crispy fried fish cakes. Common side dishes and decorations include including tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, pickled vegetables, lemon, chopped green onions, mint leaves, sweet and sour dipping sauce…”.
It is not difficult to find broken rice restaurants on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City. The charcoal grills emit fragrant smoke of lemongrass, grilled meat and spices, attracting diners from near and far. This is also a dish that helps strengthen the stomach, chosen by many local people and workers.
Phở (Noodle Soup)
Finally, Phở ranked 54th on the list with a rating of 4.3/5 stars. This is also one of the most popular Vietnamese dishes in the Western Hemisphere because of its complex, unique flavor and simplicity yet elegance.
“Even though it is classified as a soup, Phở is served as a main dish and two bowls of pho never taste the same. Traditionally, the broth is made with chicken or beef broth, with the bones added to the soup.” Simmer for at least 3 hours to get the perfect flavor,” Taste Atlas introduced.
Phở has many ways to prepare, giving different flavors. However, it can be divided into two schools: Northern Phở and Southern Phở. Northern Phở is eaten with green onions, has a clear broth, and is prepared simply and delicately. Southern Phở is more flavorful, served with bean sprouts and herbs.
