Hoi An town was ranked seventh on the list of best cities in the world as its fame continues to spread on the global travel map.
Travel + Leisure Magazine’s readers named Vietnam’s most famous destination among this list.
Every year for its World’s Best Awards survey, the New York-based Travel + Leisureasks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe to share their opinions on the top cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines and more.
Cities’ sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping and overall value are rated by readers.
Travel + Leisure said the majority of cities that made it into the top 15 are pedestrian-friendly, possess ample green space and have a rich history that’s being thoughtfully preserved.
This year Hoi An became 7th city on the list which top by Mexico’s San Miguel de Allende.
Also in March 2017, global travel website TripAdvisor announced a list of best 25 destination in the world with Hoi An on 13th position.
It was praised as a “well-preserved” example of Southeast Asian trading ports from the 15th-19th centuries.
The biggest highlight of the central coastal town is the lantern festival held on the 14th day of each lunar month, when “the town trades its electric lights for traditional colored lanterns.”, according to TripAdvisor.
The site also recommended a visit to the 400-year-old Japanese Bridge and the three-century-old Fukian Assembly Hall.
Tailors are also a major attraction, and tourists are told to “let the town’s expert tailors make you some bespoke clothing.”
